Why on Earth would you want to live in Thailand? Let alone buy a property

I think to some degree Thailand receives a bad press in the Western Media, all you seem to hear about is the Tsunami, Bird Flu, SARS and military coupes. The press always prints stories of western tourists that have come a cropper in one form or another. What they never tell you is that Thailand has a relatively low crime rate, the cost of living is very low, places like Phuket have year round average temperatures of 28°C. We have some of the best beaches in the world, children can walk down the street alone without the fear of attack, you can take your children into any establishment and they are welcomed, the Thai people in general are very friendly and relaxed. Having lived here for 5 years it begs the question why on Earth would you want to live anywhere else!!

In terms of property, for the cost a average two bedroom property in London, you can buy a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom villa with pool 5 minutes from the beach like this one in Nai Harn, I know which one I would prefer. So next time your stood on some train station platform with a freezing wind cutting right through you, think of what you could be doing.

Introduction

Welcome to my blog. I am a British Real Estate Agent based on the beautiful island of Phuket, Thailand. In this blog I intend to detail information about property on this island and also day to life. I have been living here now for five years and feel I have a lot of useful information to supply with regard to life here. I have a Thai wife and a 2 month old baby.

Many people have a western view of Realtors, i.e. Porsche 911, flash house - no personality. In some respects I would like that to be me well the first two at least. In reality things are somewhat different in Thailand, the house market is not that fluid, a couple of sales per month is considered as doing well.  I don’t drive Porsche, BMW or Mercedes I can barely afford to drive a Ford and in general I come to work on a motorbike. Now before you all start feeling sorry for me, I actually choose to ride the bike it’s actually a quick way of getting around the area, and also I live about 5 minutes from the office. The trip to work takes me down the beach road next to a white sandy beach fringed with Palm trees. So things are not that bad.

Anyway enough of an intro, I hope whoever reads this will find some value in it and I will try not to waffle too much.
